My Story

 the beginning

In french slang, my mémère called it a jib-let (a concoction) that I would create from every ingredient I could find. These 'potions' ranged from the nutrient rich soil from my families vegetable garden, to the seaweed and stardust sand I ran my hands through at the beach. Slowly, over time, this evolved into lathering olive oil all over my body, dabbling with exotic scents discovered through essential oils, watching my skin glisten, and letting my mind slip into all the beauty that life can be. This nourishment and care for my body expanded into the kitchen, making zucchini bread with the ripest zucchinis that beckoned to be plucked from our garden, or having a visit to our chicken coup to say hello to our furry friends Marshmallow and Miss Perfect to see what delightful blue and white speckled eggs they left for us. Dreaming up recipes that nourished my body from the inside, and through playing, I discovered what made me feel vibrant and beautiful.

the journey

My love for animals was one of my initial awakenings into the U.S food system. In high school, my graduation project was on the animal welfare of Cows, Pigs and Chickens. This propelled me into the world of CAFOS (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations) and the inhumane treatment of animals across the US. Here is where I began to learn of the overcrowding concern for the animals, no access to the outdoors, GMO’s and antibiotics in their feed, and inhumane slaughterhouses among several other concerns. This launched me into a four year journey of being a vegetarian at university and learning how to tend to myself off a plant based diet.

Shortly after, as often the case with life, we were thrown into the functional medicine side of things when my brother tested allergic to the metals in his oral braces. Given this toxicity was in the mouth, a major entry way to the body, these toxins soon became a burden for his body, causing a host of significant health concerns. When conventional medicine could not give my family the answer to their greatest concern at the time, their sons health, it launched us all into a world of holistic practices and being viewed as a hippie family long before alternative medicine was more readily accepted. We learned not only of the importance of what you put in your body through food and personal care products, but we were awakened to the role heavy metals, artificial fragrances, toxic chemicals and funguses play, how they find their way into our system through our environment and living habits, foster toxic buildup within, and cause a ripple effect throughout the body.
